Morioka Cricket is the site dedicated to promoting the beautiful game of cricket in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

2010 Season Launched with Parade Down Odori

The Morioka cricket club's 2010 season was launched with a ticker tape parade down Odori.  A crowd of over 100,000 was on hand to great the players as they rode in convertibles supplied by a movie props company.  The parade delayed the planned propmotion of the new Twilight movie at the Moss Building.

Bystander Hiroki Suzuki said, "What's this with all the people and the cars and the people throwing litter from the buildings?"

The startling season opener has certainly put the sport of cricket on the map.  After Friday's parade the club was hit with a 300, 000 yen littering fine from the city.

Meanwhile, the first game of 2010 has been played.  Full details are on the club's Facebook site.

Laconic Canadian Jamie Bruce has captured the number 1 Morioka Cricket Club Career Runs position.  Bruce said the extra practice this year made the difference.

"That and watching those Indian guys!", he added.

James Hobbs claims his presidential duties had nothing to do with his slump to number 2.

"I have no excuses.  We had a real lift in bowling with the Indians coming along," he said.

"Anyway, coming second to a natural like Jamie is no humiliation."
